We are pleased to announce that Kamienna 28 has received a BREEAM Interim certification with a “Good” rating. The certification was awarded to both post-industrial buildings A and B, located at Kamienna Grobla 28 Street on the banks of the New Motława River opposite Granary Island, as well as the new, ground-up building C, which will complement this unique project facing Jałmużnicza Street. The international BREEAM Interim certification confirms that the Kamienna 28 investment was implemented in accordance with the highest construction standards and is a testament to ACCIONA’s commitment to implementing sustainable development principles in line with ESG criteria. The certification also demonstrates the importance of revitalizing former post-industrial districts in the process of densifying the urban fabric of modern metropolises and combating climate change.
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is an international building rating system that assesses their environmental performance and sustainability. The BREEAM Interim certification process, also known as pre-certification, takes place during the design and construction phases of buildings, providing preliminary confirmation of the project’s compliance with stringent BREEAM criteria in aspects such as management, energy efficiency, water management, occupant health and comfort, as well as pollution minimization and appropriate material management. With BREEAM Interim certification, investors and future residents can be assured that the project is being implemented in accordance with the highest environmental standards, which translates into financial benefits such as lower operating costs and more attractive financing terms for sustainable investments.
“The result achieved on the certificate is the result of the project simultaneously meeting a number of guidelines relating to issues such as indoor air quality, water-saving solutions, site accessibility, water leak detection and prevention, and thermal comfort, as well as confirmation that the contractor has met, at the current stage of construction, requirements supporting responsible construction practices, such as legal timber sourcing and rational waste management to reduce waste volume”
explains Piotr Ratajczyk, Project Manager at ACCIONA Nieruchomości.
The Kamienna 28 development is an example of responsible construction that respects cultural heritage and cares for the environment. ACCIONA is implementing the project in the spirit of sustainable development, ensuring a high quality of life for residents and thoughtful architecture in keeping with the history of the area. It’s worth noting that the mill’s restoration goes hand in hand with the revitalization of the entire Lower Town, which, thanks to a public-private partnership, is emerging as a new prestigious location in Gdańsk.
“The very fact that we are changing the building’s function from industrial to residential brings a number of pro-environmental and pro-social benefits, contributing to, among other things, the densification of the urban fabric, preventing the migration of city residents to the suburbs, and reducing car traffic. Future residents of the KAMIENNA 28 development will have everything close by and will be able to get around almost everywhere on foot or by bike. In the immediate vicinity of our project, there are numerous cultural facilities encouraging active leisure time, such as the Łaźnia Centre for Contemporary Art, the Baltic Philharmonic, and the café-club complex operating on the former site of the Royal Rifle Factory. There are also numerous recreational areas. Located on the Motława River, the Lower Town is one of the greenest parts of Gdańsk and will remain so. In the near future, plans include the revitalization of the Wilk and Wyskok bastions, former city fortifications, which constitute a vast green area with access to the water. The boulevard along Nowa Street will also undergo revitalization. “The Motława River is a major development, meaning our investment will soon feature elegant steps leading to the waterfront and greenery. All of this will be within walking distance of KAMIENNA 28, in line with the 15-minute city concept. At ACCIONA, we believe that this approach to investment is the future of the development industry and the key to socially responsible construction”
summarizes Anna Terlecka, Sales Director at ACCIONA Nieruchomości.
