There’s no better opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere of the Lower Town than neighborhood festivals. On September 21st of this year, one of these events – the “Farewell to Summer” – took place, bringing together the entire Lower Town community. The event took place on the playing field of the former Junior High School No. 9 on Jałmużnicza Street, across from which will be built the new building that forms part of the KAMIENNA 28 investment project being developed by ACCIONA in Gdańsk. The festival, which bid farewell to summer and welcomed autumn, was preceded by a costumed parade that marched down Łąkowa Street from the LPP headquarters. The parade featured stilt walkers, trumpet players, and extraordinary residents of the Lower Town dressed as 19th-century patricians and other historical figures associated with Gdańsk.
The festival itself was rich in numerous exceptionally creative attractions, including ceramics and painting workshops, insect house building, and kite-making, led by organizations and institutions associated with the Lower Town. The Farewell to Summer Festival was also an opportunity to learn about plans for the revitalization of this most historic, yet still undiscovered part of Gdańsk’s city center, which is taking place thanks to the cooperation of the City of Gdańsk with development companies.
Participants in the event, in addition to ACCIONA Nieruchomości, also included ARCHE Dwór Uphagena, the Gdańsk Development Office, the Łaźnia Centre for Contemporary Art, Mrowisko – Centrum Reduta, EURO STYL, the Lena Grochowska Foundation and the café to MY Gdańsk, the Gdańsk Foundation, the Aleksandra FOSA Social Support Foundation, the WPK GG Tram and Bus Group, ISE Dolne Miasto – Incubator of Neighborly Energy, the Śródmieście District Council, Primary School No. 65 named after Alf Liczmański, the Tower of Secrets, and the City of Gdańsk. The entire festival was overseen by the indispensable Storytellers, led by Ms. Elżbieta Woroniecka and Mr. Jacek Górski.
